I met Dr. Omurtag and his crew in March 2022. I went to him after failing four previous rounds of IVF at another clinic with no explanation except bad luck. He right off the top started doing testing to try to figure out why I kept failing these rounds.
The first round with him, we did an IUI, which worked but resulted in an early loss. I was devastated knowing I could carry a child, as I have a daughter already. We performed more testing, did a biopsy, and started our first round of IVF. Lo and behold- it did not work. We reprogrammed- changed the protocol and started round two. Got a beautiful embryo and transferred and it worked. Again, it resulted in an early pregnancy loss, and it left us scratching our heads, but Dr. Omurtag didn’t give up. He changed my protocol again. Went for a frozen embryo transfer this time, and once again, we had success that ended in a loss.
We decided enough was enough, and I took a break, which resulted in a separation from my previous partner. When I was ready to come back to the clinic, Dr. Omurtag welcomed me and had no judgment that I was ready to go forward with my fourth round and try again, except that the difference this time was my new partner. We did a new protocol to yield as many eggs to fertilize, and I ended up with 1,2, which surprised us all, as the previous 2 rounds didn’t yield that many.
Five days later, we learned we had two beautiful embryos and did a fresh transfer of one of them. Eleven days later, I received the call from nurse Mary that I was, in fact, pregnant! I was over the moon, but had been here before, so I was cautious. We repeated my betas every two days for the first 6 days and watched that number climb. I had my ultrasound at 7 weeks and saw my beautiful baby’s heartbeat. I was told I was graduating from the clinic into my Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor’s care. About two weeks later, my anxiety got the best of me and I contacted his office stating I was afraid something was wrong and could I get an ultrasound until I saw my new doctor. They brought me in the same day and checked on my precious baby. I’m proud to say I am now 23 weeks with a beautiful baby boy and can’t wait to give birth and let him meet Dr. Omurtag and his team. He never gave up. After having six losses, my world was turned upside down, and Dr. Omurtag kept the faith and hope that he would get me my rainbow. As is sit here writing this, feeling my miracle boy kick, I’ll forever be grateful for the team that didn’t give up on me. It would have never been possible with them.
